Designing "Writing Mitra" - an AI-powered, real-time suggestion layer inside Pratilipi’s story editor. The goal is to help writers improve clarity, emotion, tone, and writing speed without disrupting their creative flow. The assistant offers subtle, customizable feedback to support both beginner and experienced writers on mobile.

Challenge
The main challenge was designing AI suggestions that support writers without interrupting their creative flow. We had to balance helpfulness with control, ensuring the AI enhances rather than takes over the writing. Making the experience non-intrusive on mobile was critical, especially for real-time feedback. Another key challenge was catering to different types of writers-beginners, intermediates, and experienced-each with unique needs like finishing stories, improving craft, or saving time. It was also important to allow tone personalization, letting users set goals like “add suspense” or “make this emotional” and receive relevant suggestions. Lastly, we focused on making writing faster and smoother, especially for time-constrained users like working professionals.
Objective
The objective was to design an AI feature that helps writers write faster, smoother, and with more confidence- without breaking their creative flow. It aims to improve clarity, tone, and emotional depth through subtle, real-time suggestions. The tool should be useful across all skill levels-helping new writers complete their first story and experienced writers maintain quality while saving time. It also focuses on giving users control, allowing them to choose the kind of support they want in a lightweight, mobile-first experience.
Results
The project resulted in a well-defined concept for Writing Mitra. It effectively addressed the needs of different writer types by providing helpful features like tone-based feedback, creative prompts, and user-controlled assistance. The final design focused on helping writers improve clarity, express emotion, and write more efficiently-while ensuring the experience remains smooth, supportive, and non-disruptive.
