Challenge
The main challenge was creating an AI experience that feels natural, helpful, and human-like - not robotic or generic. Since the app caters to diverse users with different dietary needs, cooking skill levels, and regional preferences (especially within India), we had to ensure the AI could handle ingredient substitutions, portion control, and personalized recipe suggestions without overwhelming the user. Another big focus was balancing automation with user choice, so users felt guided but always in control of their cooking journey.
Objective
The objective was to design an intelligent and user-friendly cooking assistant that could simplify meal preparation by suggesting personalized recipes based on what users already have at home, their dietary preferences, and skill level. The goal was also to provide real-time, voice-guided support while cooking, reduce food waste through smart planning, and make the overall cooking experience more efficient and enjoyable.
Results
The outcome was a high-fidelity prototype of ByteBites - an AI-powered cooking app designed specifically for Indian users. The final design successfully addressed key user needs with features like adaptive recipe suggestions, voice-guided cooking, and smart grocery planning. User testing showed high engagement with the voice assistant and recipe customization, validating the design decisions and overall concept.
